ABSTRACT: This study explores the effectiveness of project-based learning (PBL) in vocational contexts, emphasizing its impact on student engagement and skill acquisition. The objectives were to (1) assess the current use of PBL in vocational education, (2) evaluate the impact of PBL on student learning outcomes, and (3) propose strategies to enhance the implementation of PBL in vocational training. A survey design was employed to collect data from students, educators, and administrators to understand the utilization and impact of PBL. The sample size included 200 participants, selected through a purposive sampling technique to ensure relevant experience with PBL. The case study focused on Kano State, Nigeria, known for its dynamic vocational education system. Findings revealed that PBL significantly improved student engagement and practical skill development by allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world projects. However, challenges such as resource limitations and educator preparedness were noted. Recommendations included providing training for educators on PBL methods, increasing investment in resources needed for project-based activities, and developing partnerships with local industries to provide real-world project opportunities for students to enhance the effectiveness of PBL in vocational contexts.
